Project Details

This project entailed a renovation and an addition to a 1,300 square foot house in Austin’s Tarrytown neighborhood. The client commissioned McKinney York to double the size of the home while maintaining its small-scale feel, guarding against an ill-proportioned addition so often seen in the area. The new front fits contextually with its neighbors while the back opens generously to a massive live oak, the treasure of the property. The key elements of the project include a new second floor with master suite, study, and screened porch, as well as a new kitchen, foyer, and expanded dining area. In the backyard, a deck and garden for outdoor entertaining were added. The materials and colors were chosen to compliment the live oaks and the owner’s possessions, both eclectic and classic.
