Project Details

This project transforms an under-utilized back of house space at the City of Austin Convention Center into a high high-quality, multi-purpose event/studio area with a high-end commercial kitchen at its center. The event studio will be used for planning events and aid in making decisions for the aesthetics of the convention center events from the décor to the place settings. The event studio is fitted out with the latest audio-visual technology to enhance presentations when it is rented out. A feature wood wall houses embedded technology screens, hidden storage, and open alcoves that highlight options for event décor.

The open concept demonstration kitchen is a focal point for the event space with a “chef’s table” that seats 20. Live cameras capture the activity in the bustling kitchen and display them on presentation screens integrated throughout the space. The kitchen will be used as a culinary studio and tasting venue to help demonstrate the quality that the convention center brings to your event.

This project also includes a complete remodel of existing restroom into a shared unisex restroom to be used as a prototype for future convention center restrooms. The individual stalls form a central core creating a “loop” around the restroom. Light and bright finishes along with the lack of dead-ends in the restroom enhance the user’s sense of safety in this new prototypical restroom design.
