Texas Facilities Commission William B. Travis Building Renovation

scroll View Project Description

Project Details

As part of the Texas Facilities Commission’s Capitol Complex transformation, the renovation of the William B. Travis Building provides a hybrid-first, post-pandemic workplace for state agencies like the Texas Education Agency and Texas Forensic Science Commission. Spanning 130,600 square feet across five floors, the project creates a flexible office environment that encourages collaboration and reflects the communication and connection that is essential to the work of state agencies. The first level features public hearing rooms and a welcoming double-height lobby functioning as an urban park by extending the exterior pedestrian mall into the building. The upper levels showcase dynamic work environments organized around a network of interconnecting pathways reminiscent of an urban grid. Increased daylighting and exterior views were achieved through careful space planning and material selections. Collaboration spaces are strategically placed throughout the suites, serving as meeting points and supporting informal interaction between team members. Flexible furniture offers a variety of assigned and touch-down workspaces to provide user choice. In several suites, these highly adaptable workspaces function as transitionary swing spaces for tenants awaiting permanent space. Interior finishes and furniture include bright colors and organic patterns referencing tenant agency branding. Large wall graphics add vibrancy to the renovated spaces, connecting them to their tenant agencies and to the larger Capitol Complex.
